Neglecting your heart is like neglecting your life…if you want to live happily and healthy, then take care of your heart. Happy World Heart Day.
How do you celebrate heart day?
Take a dance class (or try Pilates, hiking, ice skating). Choose physical activities for social time with friends and family and multiply heart-healthy effects!
World Heart Day, which is celebrated every year on 29th September, was created by the World Heart Federation.
It was aimed at informing people around the world about cardiovascular disease (CVD).
It is a global campaign through which the federation unites people in the fight against the CVD burden as well as inspires and drives international action to encourage heart-healthy living.
Why do we celebrate Heart Day?
The main aim of celebrating this day is to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, its prevention and the impact it has on people across the world. CVD including heart disease and stroke claims 17.9 million lives every year. Given this fact, the day highlights the actions that individuals can take to prevent and control CVD. The day is celebrated every year with a theme.
History of World Heart Day
World Heart Day was first observed in the year 1999 after World Heart Federation collaborated with World Health Organization. The idea of celebrating the day was conceived by Antoni Baye de Luna, who was the former president the of World Health Federation. Till 2011, the day was observed on the last Sunday of September. However, with world leaders committing to reduce global mortality from non-communicable diseases by 25 percent come 2025 in 2012, the day has come to be observed on 29 September every year.
You owe your heart some tender loving care.
