International Day of the Girl Child: Invest in girls’ rights: our leadership, our well-being!

I am not just a girl
I am the hope of the human race

I am Woman
I am the transcending spirit of human existence
Today, I am just a girl
Tomorrow, I become the matriarch of my bloodline

I refuse to be left in darkness
In an age where data is life
amongst a community of inventors
I can not be just another girl out of school

The colour of my face is not a limiting factor
I belong to the digital generation
So I thrive
I am crawling out of obscurity
I am a woman
This is my time
So I rise!

This day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls’ face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights. This year, under the theme “Invest in girls’ rights: our leadership, our well-being.”
