Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM): #WithSurvivors

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a way to raise awareness and end the stigma about  domestic violence, and most importantly, speak up and offer resources to anyone you think may be in an abusive relationship.

DVAM 2025: This year’s theme for DVAM is “With Survivors, Always”. This theme allows us to explore what it means to be in partnership with survivors towards safety, support, and solidarity.

This DVAM and beyond, we must work together to embrace diverse paths to healing from violence + oppression, commit to holding space for survivors, and center those most marginalised in all of our efforts to end DV.

The phrase ‘Domestic Violence’ does not only mean physical abuse. It also includes psychological abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and financial abuse. It is important  to recognise that domestic violence impacts millions of people, and it’s not only women who are victims; many men suffer domestic violence as well.

Tell your story when you can. Don’t allow a recount of events when you are gone. Never reject help from outside. Don’t lie for your abuser. Don’t cover up your bruises, make ups won’t fix your broken jaw. Stop faking the smile. You can only pretend for a while. The walls around you can hear
You are the only one left to realize you deserve better!
No one deserves to be subjected to such victimization in any kind of relationship. Walk away from such relationships. You have nothing to be ashamed of. The abuse you suffered is not your fault, and you didn’t deserve to be treated that way.

Learn to love the sound of your feet walking away from things not meant for you!
I stand in accord with every survivor of domestic violence and also honouring the memory of the beautiful lives that were taken by their abuser.
