This day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls’ face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights. This year, under the theme, “My voice, Our Equal Future”, let’s seize the opportunity to be inspired by what adolescent girls sees as the change they want, the solutions- big and small- they are leading and demanding across the globe.
As adolescent girls worldwide assert their power as change-makers, International Day of the Girl 2020 will focus on their demands to:
Live free from gender-based violence, harmful practices, and HIV and AIDS
Learn new skills towards the future they choose
Lead as a generation of activists accelerating social change
October 10 is World Mental Health Day and the goal is to help raise Mental Health awareness. This year theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is ‘mental health for all’. Mental health problems affect around one in four people. They range from common problems, such as depression and anxiety, to rarer problems such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Mental health problems can affect anyone. We all have times when we feel down or stressed. Most of the time those feelings pass but sometimes they develop in to a more serious problem and that could happen to any one of us. Everyone is different. You may bounce back from a setback while someone else may feel weighed down by it for a long time. Your mental health doesn’t always stay the same. It can change as circumstances change.
Now more than ever, we need to find ways to stay connected with our community. No one should feel alone or without the information, support and help they need. It’s okay to feel unstable. It’s okay to need help. It’s okay not to be okay. Please take care of yourself. Make your mental health a priority!
Always remember you’re in control of your thoughts and how you feel. Choose positivity over negativity. Energy is contagious. In other words, surround yourself with postive people. Be grateful for even the smallest things. The choice to be happy is all yours!
It is important to embrace intentional living where you can live on your own terms and create a life of meaning and purpose. Do what makes you happy. Experience the freedom to just be you. Stay happy in your lane. Live intentionally!
