Sola Allyson-Obaniyi

I celebrate an amazing woman today. A woman who has inspired so many. Sola Allyson-Obaniyi popularly known as Sola Allyson, is a soul singer, gospel singer, song writer, voice coach, counsellor and a consultant.

Sola was born in Lagos, Nigeria. She had her primary education at Anglican Primary School, Ikorodu, after which she attended Shams-el-deen Grammar School Ikorodu for her secondary education. She subsequently attended Government Technical College, Agidingbi, Ikeja where she studied Business Studies and obtained an NBTE Certificate. In 1997, she gained admission in to The Polytechnic, Ibadan to study Music Technology, majoring in Voice and minoring in Music. She acquired a Higher National Diploma (HND) degree.

Sola started her career as a back-up singer in the late 1980s, when she was only thirteen. She later became a professional back-up singer and worked with musicians such as, Yinka Ayefele, Pasuma, and Daddy Showkey. The opportunity to make her first album Eji Owuro came when she met a man with a movie script in a public bus. The man initiated a conversation with Sola, telling her about a film shoot he just concluded. Sola was eventually called to sing a soundtrack for the film, which led to the change in the tittle of the film to “Eji Owuro”. Sola came in to limelight with the album Eji Owuro in 2003.

Rosalind Brewer

I celebrate an amazing woman today. A woman who has inspired so many. Rosalind Brewer is the Chief Operating Officer of Starbucks.

Rosalind, a Detroit native, attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit. Rosalind earned a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Spelman College and attended Wharton’s Advanced Management Program and Stanford University’s Directors’ College. Rosalind was appointed to the Starbucks board of directors in March 2017 and continues to serve on the board. As chief operating officer and group president for Starbucks, Rosalind leads the company’s operating business across the Americas (Canada, U.S. and Latin America).

Prior to joining Starbucks, Rosalind served as president and chief executive officer of Sam’s Club, the eighth largest U.S. retailer with sales of $57 billion for fiscal year 2016. Rosalind joined Sam’s Club, the members-only warehouse channel of Walmart Inc. in 2012 and made history by becoming the first woman and first African American to lead a Walmart division.

Rosalind joined Walmart in 2006 as regional vice president and later became president of Walmart East, where her P&L responsibility exceeded $100 billion. Prior to Walmart, she was with Kimberly-Clark Corp. for 22years, starting as a scientist and ultimately serving as president of the Global Nonwovens Sector in 2004.

In 2013, Rosalind was named one of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women by Forbes. 1n 2018, Fortune ranked her no 33 on its list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. Rosalind received the Spelman College Legacy of Leadership award. Rosalind Brewer is a current director of Amazon.

She is truly a source of inspiration and a phenomenal woman!

Kate Henshaw

I celebrate an amazing woman today. A woman who has inspired so many. Kate Henshaw is an actress.

Kate Henshaw was born on the 19th of July 1971. After completing her primary and secondary school in Lagos and Calabar, she spent one year at the University of Calabar reading Remedial Studies, and then majored in Medical Microbiology at the School of Medical Lab Science, LUTH (Lagos University Teaching Hospital) in Lagos. Kate worked at the Bauchi State General Hospital.

She started out her career in the Entertainment industry in 1993 when she auditioned for lead role in the movie “When the Sun Sets” and was handed the role. This was her first appearance in a major Nollywood movie. In 2008, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a leading role. Kate has received numerous awards since then.
