I’m celebrating Kemi Adetiba today. An award-winning director, producer and cinematographer. I admire this outstanding woman and she inspires me greatly.
Kemi Adetiba was born on the 8th of January 1980 in Lagos, Nigeria. Kemi started her journey in to the media as a young child where she headlined two national television commercials for the iconic detergent brand OMO, Towing the path of her father, Dele Adetiba, a veteran in the advertising and broadcast industries. Though a law school graduate, Kemi has, in a short space of time, excelled in the entertainment both in Nigeria and across sub-Saharan Africa.
Kemi started out professionally as a radio presenter with Rhythm 93.7 FM, where she became the voice behind two nationally syndicated hit shows. Kemi began to make a transition from being a voice on radio to being a face on television by producing and presenting several shows on Mnet, which includes Studio 53, Temptation Nigeria etc. The Future Nigeria Awards have taken notice, nominating Kemi for the On-Air Personality of the Year award five years in a row (including 2011, where she became the first double-nominee in the ceremony’s history with a nod for Screen Producer/Director of the year).
In 2007, after years of success in front of the camera, her love of storytelling drew her to enrol in the New York Film Academy. Her body of work includes music videos, commercials, television content and films. Her short ‘Across a Bloodied Ocean’ was screened at the Pan-African Film Festival in Los Angeles and the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta. On 8 September 2016, Kemi Adetiba’s first feature film “The Wedding Party” premiered opening night at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), as the opening film of the City-to-City Spotlight.
She is truly a source of inspiration and a phenomenal woman!
