Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it.

In general terms, it manifests itself in physical, sexual and psychological forms, encompassing:

  • intimate partner violence (battering, psychological abuse, marital rape, femicide);
  • sexual violence and harassment (rape, forced sexual acts, unwanted sexual advances, child sexual abuse, forced marriage, street harassment, stalking, cyber- harassment);
  • human trafficking (slavery, sexual exploitation);
  • female genital mutilation; and
  • child marriage.

  1. On the issue of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, you’ve written very vital points so all I have to add is that of financial harassment and abuse.
    This mostly happens where the lady/woman has no source of income of her own. A low esteemed man now holds the lady/wife hostage to purchase only when the man approves but most she gets insulted or bitten for price increase and using her initiatives in spending. The man then believes he should be worshipped by his wife/ lady.
    So ladies please do get a job or work from home or buy into business or invest in someone with business ideas.
    No real man will abuse or hit a lady or woman or his wife.
