Bilikiss was born in Lagos, Nigeria. She graduated from Fisk University and then went to Vanderbilt University where she earned a master’s degree. She worked for IBM for five years before deciding to study further. She holds an MBA from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). She first came up with the idea for a recycling business during her second year at MIT, where she was studying waste as her specialist subject.

WeCyclers is focused on giving low-income communities in developing countries a chance to capture value from waste and clean up their neighbourhoods through an incentive-based recycling program. The company works in partnership with the Lagos Waste Management Authority. WeCyclers use modified tricycles which enables rubbish to be collected where normal vehicles could not go. WeCyclers collects from thousands of households. WeCyclers maijor aim is to build a low cost waste collection infrastructure while raising general awareness on the importance of recycling for environmental sustainability and social welfare gained from reduction in pollution and diseases like malaria.

Recycling is a key area which needs urgent attention especially in developing and underdeveloped societies. Thanks for bringing to limelight individuals who are envisioned to increase the level of awareness in such areas as recycling.
