World Mental Health Day!

October 10 is World Mental Health Day, and the goal is to help raise mental health awareness. This year’s theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is “It is time to prioritize mental health in the workplace.” World Health Organisation is calling everyone to take shared responsibility for workplace mental health. From employers to employees, we must unite in educating ourselves and one another to recognise the signs of poor mental health and provide mutual support so that we can create healthier workplaces where mental wellbeing is a priority for all.

Mental health problems affect around one in four people. They range from common problems, such as depression and anxiety, to rarer problems such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Mental health problems can affect anyone. We all have times when we feel down or stressed. Most of the time, those feelings pass, but sometimes they develop into a more serious problem, and that could happen to any one of us. Everyone is different. You may bounce back from a setback while someone else may feel weighed down by it for a long time. Your mental health doesn’t always stay the same. It can change as circumstances change.

Talking about our mental health can help us cope better with life’s ups and downs. So, on World Mental Health Day and beyond it, we need to find ways to stay connected with our community. No one should feel alone or without information, support, and the help they need.
